NOTEs FROM Jim and Dot

Members, six months have come and  gone since we have started.  It has been a good year  and we want to extend our sincere appreciation to you all for your support and understanding concerning our decision to close the lakes for a few weeks to protect the fisheries and  investments, both yours and ours.  We are not vacationing, but working and monitoring the waters for oxygen levels and problems.   Hopefully, this will alleviate the stress on the bass during the “dog days of summer!”

VEGETATION CONTROL

It looks like our lake treatment worked well for us.  We will hopefully have the lakes open and grass free thanks to Kelly Duffie of Estes, Inc. and SePro Aquatics and their product, Sonar. We will treat Lake Ryan again soon.  It is all looking great for the fall fishing.  Hope everyone is excited as we are.

LAKE Lines

It has been a good year so far at The Lakes of Danbury, and I am so happy and proud that our lakes have remained virtually grass free through the hot summer.  Ryan has a little grass but the water is too hot to treat the grasses that remain.  We will slowly start treating again as the water temperature cools down a little.  The 120 looks better than I have seen it in eleven years that I have been associated with The Lakes.  I am not a biologist, but I do know that we did something right with the help of Kelly Duffie of Estes and SePRO.  I will start seining the forage fish that I am raising in the two ponds near Lake Leona and CZ.  Jimmy has been working some overtime at his job with Chevron-Phillips and he has not been on staff for about 5 to 6 weeks.  Hopefully, when he returns to work, we will begin the seining process.  He and his wife, Vonessa, are expecting their first child in late March.  Their child will make six grandchildren for Papa Jim and Nana Dot.

Looks like we are finally going to get our new flat bottom boat and another is on order.  It has been ready for a few months, but the person that is delivering it has been ill and in the hospital.  These are custom built flat bottom boats that are built in Arkansas by SeaArk Marine.  I also have been talking to both Ranger and Skeeter bass boats about getting new boats, but no agreement has been reach at this time.  I will continue my efforts to secure new and better boats.

Members, I am slowly following through with my promises and commitments, and I need your continued support for our club to proceed and prosper.  Let it be a challenge to each member to bring me a new member and we can continue to flourish to make The Lakes of Danbury the best bass fishing in the world.

On June 21, Colter Grote, grandson of members Frank and Janet Farlow, caught his first fish while fishing with Grandpa Frank on Lake Ryan.  He caught this 7 pounder on a purple wacky worm.  Let’s get hooked on “fishin” and then “PASS IT ON”.

7/8/01      New Member, Wayne Pruitt and his wife, Ruth Ann, caught 55 bass in the 120 using crank baits and spinner baits.

7/15/01    Ted Grabowski and Deb Wade caught a 8 lber, 7 lber and a 6 ½ lber in the 120 in just a morning of fishing.

6/15/01    Tony Gay and his young son, Sam caught 10 catfish while fishing in the catfish pond.

7/25/01    New member Walter Rice and his wife, Michelle, son, Kerry, and daughter Carleigh caught 26 fish in the walk-around ponds from 6:25 pm till dark with 1 over 5 lbs.  The fish were caught on pink and blue worms with no weight.  I hear that Carleigh was “fisherman of the day”---that’s one up for the ladies.

8/8/01    Tom Bartlett along with his son’s Travis and Tyler fished in Leona.  Looks like Tom landed an 8 ¼ lber on a white spinner bait.  He said all the fish he caught were healthy and fought hard.  Travis and Tyler were proud of their dad. They taught him well !!!!

8/9/01     Tom Davis landed over 30 good healthy bass on a half day fishing on the 120 using silver and blue crankbaits.  Our thanks to Tom for always handling our bass so well.

8/12/01   Walter Rice and his wife Michelle again showed their fishing skills on Honey Hole with a catch of 49 good healthy bass.  That’s what we call “hot action”.

8/12/01   Thirty bass was a good day for Jeff  Staggs fishing on the 120.  Thanks for your continued support, Jeff.

Wayne Pruitt  landed this nice 7 ½ pound lunker.

We appreciate his fishing enthusiasm.

“Dr. Dave” Samuels, from West Chester, PA, was the ESPN Fishing Contest Winner. He spent a few days with us in May and caught this nice bass on Lake Leona. He sent a thank you letter that read, “We caught more and better fish in a ½ of a day at The Lakes of Danbury than we caught in 3 days in any one of our fishing trips of recent memory”. utiful water, great scenery, and a super host, what more could anyone want”. ȁI couldn’t have ask for more if I was at a four star resort”. We thank “Dr. Dave” for his kind words and look forward to seeing him again.

THE THOMPSON’S

JIM, DOT, AND JIMMY, JR.

From The Living Bible, Proverbs 24:30-34 reads,

I walked by the field of a certain lazy fellow and saw that it was overgrown with thorns, and covered with weeds; and its walls were broken down.

Then, as I looked, I learned this lesson:

      “A little extra sleep,

        A little more slumber,

A little folding of the hands to rest”

Means that poverty will break in upon you suddenly like a robber, and violently like a bandit.
