LAKE Lines

Fall is here and the water temperature is cool but

will vary week to week with the coming fronts.  We have had some excellent fishing days and also some not so good days.  We expect a great

fall, winter, and then spring.  Members, don’t put down your rod and reel just because you pick up your deer rifle or shotgun.  Fall fishing can be some of the best bass fishing of the entire year as some of my members found out last year.  Our waters are in great shape and crankbaits and rattle traps have been the dominant baits especially in the 120.  My game plan for the Lakes is right on track except for the cabin issue.

The company that I was ordering from did not meet our expectations and kept putting us off for delivery.  Needless to say, we will still follow

through but we may have to build one.  If anyone has any suggestions, please let me hear from you.

On Sunday, October 21, we will be seining my back lakes where I have been raising forage fish.  We will feed our bass with shad, minnows, tilapia, bluegill, and we will be adding a few new bass.  Lake Ryan has been a little slow, but should pick up with the addition of the forage and we will be adding more bass soon.  We are continuing adding new members, but we have lost some to, mainly from job transfers and corporate downsizing.  We appreciate all the new members and guests that all our members continue to bring us.  Your desire to help us is truly greatly appreciated.

CATCH CLIPS AND CONGRATS

9/5/01  On our first day back fishing, Alfred and Susan Placette, caught a few good bass on the 120, but they can also be considered true “die hard” fishermen especially since they continued fishing while a tornado appeared over the back side of the lake.

9/16/01  Barry Teare and his guest, Brian Perrott caught 55 in Honey Hole on a ½ day fishing with 5 being over 5 lbs.

9/19/01  Joe Nicknish and his guests, Chuck Sublett and Mike Albertson fished for a while in the 120 and then went to Lake Leona and fished the afternoon with 39 catches to their credit.  Good job, guys.

Also, 45 bass were caught on the 120 by Billy Cobb and his dad, Bill, with some over 6 lbs. This father and son team from Lake Jackson has fished everywhere including Mexico’s Lake Guerraro and say they catch more fish here & we were right in their backyard and never knew it.

This was a good day again for Al and Susan Placette again with 33 caught on Honey Hole on various colors of trick worms.

9/26/01  Jeff Staggs caught 50 fish in a half day on Honey Hole with two over 5 lbs.  Then to finish the day, Jeff crossed over to Lake Ryan to fish just a few more hours and caught 9 with one

weighing 5 ¼ lbs.  Red shad worms and rattle traps were the lures of the day.

9/29/01  Andy Reynolds and his son Brad along with dad & grandpa, Jack Reynolds brought guest Shane Fordham for a friendly weekend tournament.  It looks like they caught close to 50 fish with a tie for the biggest at 4 ½ lbs.   Only they will tell who really won!!!

9/30/01  Clay Forest guided his guest, Kevin Varga to a 9 lb. 3 oz bass from Lake CZ.

10/3/01  Eric Appel fished with guest Terry Hall and Joe Pantalion and caught 58 good bass in Honey Hole on green worms and then went for the afternoon catch in the 120 and landed 12 on brown and green lizards.

10/10/01  Big Fish” Mike Tuttle from the Dallas area caught a 8 lber on the 120 while fishing with his wife, Stephanie.  They were minutes away from the boat dock and landed it on a jig.

10/13/01 Jim LaBauve and Chuck Hays visited us from San Antonio for a daily Sportfishing trip.  One had been a previous guest of member, Doug Pedigo.  It was a stormy start to the day for them but they did great with about 50 plus fish in the 120 and walkaround ponds including walking around Lake Ryan.  And of course, LOD’s own, Jim Thompson, while working with these guys in the rain, caught a 9 lber off the boat pier.  Don’t you know, he just hated showing off like that??!!

I would like to share with you this poem in memory of the lives lost on September 11th.

IT’S IN THE VALLEYS I GROW

By Jane Eggleson

Sometimes life seems hard to bear

Full of sorrow, trouble and woe

It’s then I have to remember

That it’s in the valley I grow.

If I always stayed on the mountain top

And never experienced pain,

I would never appreciate God’s love

And would be living in vain.

I have so much to learn

And my growth is very slow

Sometimes I need the mountain tops,

But it’s in the valleys I grow.

I do not always understand

Why things happen as they do,

But I am sure of one thing,

My Lord will see me through

My little valleys are nothing

When I picture Christ on the cross,

He went through the valley of death

His Victory was Satan’s loss.

Forgive me Lord for complaining

When I’m feeling so very low

Just give me a gentle reminder

That it’s in the valleys I grow.

Continue to strengthen me, Lord

And use my life each day

To share your love with others

And help them find their way.

Thank you for the Valleys, Lord

For this one thing I know

The mountain tops are glorious

But it’s in the valleys I grow.
